Artists Supporting Artists
This past fall I came across an opportunity I couldn’t pass up: a local ceramic studio was looking to collaborate with a florist. I started following The Mudd House on social media after they had some major flooding along with many other in January 2024. They have bounced back brighter than ever and if you know me, you know I just love working with other creatives. So of course I threw my name in the ring when they put the ad up on their stories.
I met with one of their managers Annie (aka the amazing Wilow) and we just clicked, both so excited to work together—it’s a match made in heaven really, ceramics and flowers.
Playing with New Ingredients
What has been really fun about this collaboration, is I have been getting to play with new ingredients. It’s easy (and helpful) as a florist to fall into habits with weddings especially when they are planned so far out. Near the end of each proposal season I notice myself gravitate towards the same mix of flowers. Because I’m producing such a small batch of arrangements for Mudd House, I’ve had the opportunity to go and see what special blooms the market has to offer that week! For example, I love ginestra. I haven’t gotten to use it much because it’s a early early spring flower and I just haven’t booked the right event for it (yet, wink wink). With just one bunch, I got to make these awesome pieces and it made my heart so happy!
Challenging Myself: Fun Vases
Even more fun than getting to work with new ingredients, I’ve had so much fun seeing the amazing vases the artist at Mudd House make. I’ve had one wheel lesson and ceramics is much harder than I thought it would be and the amazing pieces that these artist make?! Just wow.
I really challenge myself to work with the vessels Annie and I pull for the week. What I mean by that is, I never want the flowers to overpower the design of the vase. They should compliment each other and make something harmonious.
kind words
“Berry Blooms has become a staple in our business & community over the past few months. We’re a ceramics studio and were looking for a way to showcase some of our bigger vases and liven up the space, and boy oh boy has Tori and her team delivered. We opted to receive fresh arrangements bi-weekly, and not only has it become a great conversation piece with customers, our team looks forward to seeing what arrangements will arrive next. The space feels more vibrant and alive, having beautiful arrangements in key points of the studio.
Coordinating with Berry Blooms is great - we became instant friends and their warm and approachable stance on the process/coordinating is so refreshing. Whether we’re following their direction or bringing ideas of our own, the arrangements always turn out better than we could have imagined. As a flower novice, Tori has allowed me to ask probably way too many questions and breaks down everything in easy to understand terminology which makes the process fun for me, too!
As an artist myself, it’s easy to recognize when it comes from the heart, and that’s what I’ve seen with Berry Blooms. ”
