When Good Friends Ask You To Do Their Wedding Florals You Obviously, Say YES
Sam, Julius, and I go way back, bonding over college adventures and endless coffee shop chats. Fast forward to their engagement, and they hit me up with an exciting proposition for their garden party bash, where they wanted the floral vibes to celebrate their Latinx and Philippine roots.
What's cool is they tossed me a colorful canvas—flexible on colors, obsessed with terracotta pots, crazy about chartreuse, ribbon enthusiasts (the longer, the better), and a simple request for some bougainvillea magic. No detailed game plan—just a "create something amazing; we trust you" vibe. So, here I am, armed with petals and ribbons, ready to turn their vision into a floral masterpiece!
All About Color: Wear What You Feel Comfortable In
Recognizing the importance of ensuring her bridesmaids felt confident and radiant, Sam provided them with the freedom to choose attire that aligned with their comfort. Emphasizing the use of bright, colorful jewel tones, Sam aimed to create a vibrant and cohesive look for the wedding party. This approach reflects a growing trend in wedding attire, where couples are increasingly open to diverse wardrobe choices for their wedding parties. Encouraging individuals to select outfits they might wear again not only enhances personal comfort but also aligns with a broader shift towards fostering more environmentally friendly practices within the realm of weddings.
Weaving In Cultural Significance Into The Arrangements
When building their arrangements we had landed on a flower for each of them to pay homage to each of their respective cultures. For Sam, we decided to use marigolds, and for Julius, sampaguita jasmine.
2 Hour Installation Window: Working With What You’re Given
Sam & Julius decided on the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe for their venue, a beautiful city-owned space. Now, here's the practical part: vendors had just a two-hour window for setting up everything for the ceremony and reception. That meant speed was crucial, and all the floral arrangements had to be ready to go beforehand. To make things smoother, I focused on creating arrangements that were a breeze to set up. On the big day, it was a matter of placing them down and making final touch-ups. Having a florist, like me, who knows the ropes of tight timelines is crucial for ensuring your day goes off without a hitch!
The 16th
On September 16th, 2023, Sam and Julius tied the knot, choosing a date that had been their special day throughout their entire relationship. The 16th held countless memories of shared moments, so making it their wedding day felt like the perfect continuation of their love story.
Surrounded by their loved ones, Sam and Julius didn't just exchange vows—they also took a moment to share communion together, a symbolic act of unity. What made their ceremony even more special was the bilingual touch, with heartfelt words spoken in both Spanish and English. It wasn't just a beautiful event; it was alive with the essence of their connection, making every person present feel like a part of their love-filled celebration.
Inspired By Succulent Structures
For the reception, we drew inspiration from succulent structures and potted plants for texture! Heck, you might even spot some throughout the pictures :)
kind words
“Y’ALL....You might think you know what beauty looks like, but really you have no clue until you’ve received a bouquet from the QUEEN herself, Tori. My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Berry Blooms Floral Co. this past September for our wedding and are still blown away by the magic that Tori and her team created.
Tori was thoughtful, proactive, and used her creative genius for good. She was by far the BEST vendor we worked with and we cannot wait to continue supporting her business.
Believe me when I say HIRE HER, SUPPORT HER, and PAY HER—IT’S WORTH IT.”
